I have always sketched floor plans, house designs and other things involving architecture on paper. I still have them in drawers back at my house. Through work, I learned how to use AutoCAD and I began to use that to render my designs in 3D, but that was a pain in the butt. Then one day I stumbled across sketchup and found a way to make my drawings come to life. I have been entertained ever since. So I figure I will post some of my work with links to my photobucket account to view the rest of them. So on with the show:

I call this one Angle House:

Well the links have the rest of the pics, would love to hear some feedback. Now understand I am not a pro, and don't claim to know the laws of physics, HAHA so some structural engineer would have to look in to see if any of this is possible. 😄

        Welcome Derek,

I like your style. very modern and contemporary but I see some traditional influencing. You're a man in need of a texture pack. I see a couple of textures from SU 5 there. just teasing you.

Thanks kristoff...yea that's why I decided to become a member here. I was browsing around looking at what can be done beyond what I have been able to teach myself and am blown away. I have no idea about all these texture packages and how you all can make your drawings look so life like, but i want to learn.

Look for ward to reading up more and asking a ton of questions.

Thanks mwm. I want to learn to make them even better.

Most of the realistic stuff you see in here is done with some of the add on rendering software or plugins for sketchup. there are many of them. They vary widely in price and ease of use. but the results are pretty awesome.

this is the place to be for SketchUp. ask and someone will be in soon to answer. make yourself at home.

Also I was wondering where you're from... I sense some southern Europe in your designs.

                Welcome, Derek.
                An impressive collection of models!
There is one thing I am missing: Light and shadow. It would make your scenes even more realistic and make the volumes stand out more.

Hey Kris, I am actually from Texas. Been here my whole life. I have always enjoyed that 70's look with a more modern twist. Flat roof lines, or with a slight angle. Of course I a huge FLW right fan and I always find myself looking through his books when I go to Barns and Nobles. HAHA So looks like I need to look into some add'tl software.

Rob, thanks. I did play around with the light settings, but I am doing all this on my laptop, so when I start adding the fog and the lights..my poor little laptop just bogs down. Most of the time, when I am working on it...I have to keep so much stuff as components and on layers so I can turn them off when not working in that area or I wouldn't be able to do anything.
