Surely I'm not the only one who has run into this problem in LO or maybe so, but when I select a dimension and try to move it up or down the dimension changes. New to layout and watched some videos but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Moving the dimension can unlink it from the end points you're dimensioning. It is kind of a pain and I wouldn't mind seeing a change in the way dimensions are linked to the points in the viewport. Fingers crossed for LO4 that this and some other things about dimensions get changed. In the meantime, my work around is to delete the dimension and insert a new one or I just edit the text and change it back to what it is supposed to be. I have to edit nearly every dimension anyway because I am using fractional inches and need to add hyphens before the fractions. Otherwise 1 1/16 might be confused as 11/16.

Thanks Dave, thought it was me, maybe an inference lock would be good. I've been doing the same work around but kinda a pain. I was dim. in sketchup but I made the din font size big enough for me to read they where way to big in LO. What workflow do use for dim. ?

Before LO did dimensions I put the dimension in in SU but to make them a reasonable size in LO I was using 6pt. and that's unreadable in SU. I don't do any dimensioning in SU anymore. I just put all my dimensions in LayOut.

Actually, the way dimensions work in Layout is reference based. I think this is a wonderful feature and hopefully never changes. The grips lock onto the reference model points you are dimensioning, so that if you change the model in any way, the dimensions will automatically change accordingly. I've found this a great second check on some of my models where I may have a wall modeled at 2'-0 5/64" by mistake as an example (just happened yesterday). I corrected it in the model and the dimension updated with the reference update. If you need to modify a dimensions grip points, simply double click the dimension and you can modify either grip point as well as modify location of text, etc.

Sonder, is there some magic way you get dims to lock? I frequently update views and find dimensions left detached and floating although the original points are still there just in a slightly different location.

I responded to your other thread. If you are frequently updating, is it possible that you originally dimensioned to a "modified" scene and then corrected later. That would do it.
