      Hi,
My modis operandi to deploy a component is as follows:-

windows>component> type requirement into search field click on selection which now deploys the selected component on my model.
I scale the component to the size required,
      Questions please -

      1. It jumps to some line - how do I get smooth movement of the component into selected place.
      2. When I have saved the component in place of the workpiece/model and I now turn the model to work on another side - the component is not anchored and flies all over the place... can one anchor the components - if so please tell how.
        Thank you
        Hans

It could be the way the original component was created that is causing you problems. I find an awful lot of the components I get from the 3DWH require a lot of work to be usable. Assuming, however, that isn't the case, when you import a component from the 3DWH or elsewhere, you'll have hold of it by its insertion point. You can drop the insertion point to a location identified by an endpoint or an intersection. That intersection might be where two guidelines cross. The problem of course is that many components you'll import don't really have their insertion points in useful locations. In those cases you'll have to drop the component and then move it where you want it to be using a second move step.

As to the component moving, is it a Face Camera component? They will appear to rotate around as you orbit. If that's not the case, it sounds like you make not be actually dropping the component by clicking someplace in the model.

Edit to add: When I am making components that will be reused, I always take a few seconds to make inserting them correctly dead simple by changing the axis location to a logical point.

In these pulls, for example, I've set the component axes to the center so when they are brought into a model they will go right to an intersection of guidelines. I can quickly put pulls on a large chest of drawers without struggling.

          Hi Hans,

Sorry for nit-picking but let it be mod us operandi... You know, I used to teach Latin...

Anyway. What is that "jumping" at #1? I cannot really think of anything but that you left "length snapping" on under Window > Model info > Untits...

Now as for #2, I do not even have a clue. Components in SU do have "insertion points" but other than a badly modelled face me component, they should not have any effect. Can you show us what exactly your problem is in a model or such?

(And sorry again: I did not mean to "lesson" you with those stupid Latin declinations)

          Gai...

So Hans, what was the issue with those components? I am still interested and do not see it resolved.
