What's hot for contest prizes?

for the 150 range..
a year's worth of ben&jerry's would be awesome(but i guess that depends on how much ice cream the person actually eats.. $150 worth is roughly one pint every two weeks)

an iPad.. without a doubt, it's the single most popular prize i've seen lately..
"win an iPad!" etc…
16GB wifi-only is $399
16GB is useless with the new version, all apps are bloated you will fill it up every week. Saying that it depends what you use it for.
However its a prize so its amazing...ignore me I am having a bitter week with ipads
I think if your in the US a Kindle Fire is a good prize, its cheaper but they are still fun to use and best of all actually fit in your pocket.

These are cool for modelling. takes a bit of getting used to but very helpful.
Also works well with sketchup http://www.3dconnexion.com/supported-software/architecture-construction.html
Price looks good. Maybe we'll go for it:

Giving a physical prize makes it difficult for non-US residents to receive it without paying import fees (and you paying shipping fees). So may I suggest an Amazon gift card, or maybe just good old cash via PayPal.

Actually, we only select prizes which are available on Amazon, and then issue an Amazon gift card.
The main purpose of the prize is to make the contest announcement more interesting. Perhaps someone will be inspired by the gift itself, and then enter the contest. Where simply saying "Win $100.00" might not be as effective.

not sure about that..
i'm pretty sure "win $400" would draw more people than "win this gadget"
[as in, i'd see that space mouse thing and think "nah.. those things are weird"]
but then again.. i'd see this:

..and think.. "yeah, it'd be sweet to win that!"but $400 talks to everybody (these days)

I personally think an Ipad will attract way more people then a 3d mouse. I own one and never use it for sketchup because the navigation is already easy.

And Amazon has an iPad 2 for $434.00 which is about the right price.
And thanks for the comment about cash Jeff - we'll highlight that a bit more and maybe even offer the Pay Pal Option for people who can receive money that way.

Great stuff Al
