      How would you take a parallel picture of something you’re trying to model?

        You can get an approximation if you take the picture from far away. If the ratio of the camera distance to the max length of the volume to be modeled is more than 25-30 it will be a very good approximation. You may need a long focal length lens(some sort of tele) for the volume to occupy a reasonably large area in the photo. If the object is flat you can also try using a photo-scanner.

              I think the perspective correction utilities in Photoshop and likely some other cheaper or free progs will approximate this for you.
