Looking for a plug-in
-
I have a one man woodworking shop and just started using Sketchup and so far everything is great.I am looking for a plug-in to build a box(basically a cabinet is a box). The input should have variables for length, width, depth, and (wall)thickness.
Is there such a plug-in? If not, how would I go about to write one?
Can I input info from a spreadsheet with the above info plus no of shelves(len and width),face-frame dimensions, style of door, etc -
Perhaps you could use Dynamic Components. Have you looked for dynamic kitchen cabinets on the 3D Warehouse?
Personally I don't bother with dynamic components for kitchen cabinets. After drawing the first one, they are easy enough to modify to suit and for standard cabinets, I just make my own component library so I don't have to make them again.

You might find this thread of interest http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=32789 and it refers to a site here http://tomatoes.ch/cms/index.php?tom=in1.php that also looks interesting.
A potentially useful plugin is mentioned here http://sketchuppluginreviews.com/2010/03/05/cabinet-google-sketchup-plugin-reviews/.
I also recall someone on this forum seeking help to develop/test a cabinet design plugin but I can't find the reference - perhaps Dave remembers?

Chris, thanks for jogging my memory. I'd forgotten about CabinetSense until your post. Very worthwhile plugin for those doing kitchen cabinets. It's not free but for the convenience and the capabilities, it would surely be worth the price.

Thanks for your reponse(s).
The cabinet and the tomatoes plugins look promising - I'll check them out.
Cabinetsense seems overvalued - I would prefer to pay for something once; not having a recurring bill every month. However I saw Sketchdata on the Web this weekend and it looks very promising. As I am still trying to get my footing with computers ans software, I run into roadblocks.
One of their plugins - Redraw Dynamic Components Plugin - says - "unblock and then unzip".
How is unblocking done in this case? ............thanks.....joe

Joe, how about a link to that plugin so we can see what you are talking about?
-
I think he´s referring to this: http://www.sketchdata.com/flash/main5_v7.swf?button=0

I've used this http://rhin.crai.archi.fr/rld/plugin_details.php?id=49 before Side note after installing it look under camera for it kinda weird.
but didn't suit my needs so I have done as Dave mentioned about making your own library.
One other thing Kraftmaid has (some of the best) cabinets in the 3d Warehouse that are DC but using them adds a lot to a model. -
The following is what I can grab from the SKETCHDATA SITE using copy and paste:
REDRAW DYNAMIC COMPONENTS PLUGIN - PLUGIN WILL REDRAW A SELECTED DYNAMIC COMPONENT OR ALL DYNAMIC COMPONENTS IN THE MODEL. THESE FUNCTIONS ARE NEW TO THE FREE VERSION OF SKETCHUP AND ALL THE FEATURES ARE NEW TO SKETCHUP PRO. (Sketchup version 7.0 or later required.) <DOWNLOAD>
In downloading this plugin, one of the four is a text document "install sketchdata" when opened, states the following:
Unblock the ZIP file before extracting.
Unzip this file in the "Plugins" sub directory of the SketchUp program.
Folder and File Structure
\Plugins\sd_loadsketchdata.rb
\Plugins\sd_sketchdata\sd_menubuild.rb
\Plugins\sd_sketchdata\sd_dcredraw.rbsThe questiion is how to perform this unblocking????
.....thanks for looking -- joe

Open each of the downloaded zip files in turn.
In them there are files and a subfolder [or two].
Read the .txt file that's in each one.
It'll explain that the .rb file goes into the Plugins folder; drag it into there as directed.
It also explains that the subfolder [with its files intact] goes into the Plugins folder; drag it into there as directed.
Just one of the zips [I think] has a second folder of components - the .txt file with that one explains where to put the folder [with its files intact] - somewhere within the Components folder; drag it into there as directed... -
