I saw a base camp video where they discussed the fact that when you open up SU it sends a ping to Google to let them know how many people are using the program but I'm seeing a lot more than one ping. I'm on a Mac and use MenuMeters a great little app that sits on the upper menu bar giving constant info about cpu, memory and bandwidth and noticed that when I open SU a lot more is going on than one ping. The screen shot of the activity monitor shows 0 data sent and rec but it ranges from 300-700 bytes. The terminal shot shows what app is using the internet. Just a curious thing really no more.

SketchUp connects many ways to the internet beside that ping. When you are logged in, when claiming credits, when using the component browser, when georeferencing a model, when using photo textures from street view, uploading/downloading models etc.

Maybe even an idle component browser already maintains an internet connection.

Now this is an oddity. I was just trying to script my own plugin and I was going back and forth, opening and closing Sketchup to see if my script was working when, Sketchup started responding slowing, opening and closing. I thought I had corrupted the program. So I shut down and restarted Windows. The first thing I did after the restart was to go to my email when I found out the Internet was down. So I headed back to Sketchup to continue. Where I learned I still had the same slow response problem with Sketchup. Darn.

So I reset my router and I got my Internet back and also got Sketchup back to the fast response. I didn't realized that the slow opening and closing was due to my not having a Internet connection. Not to impressed having to be tied to the Internet. Google, please stay at your house not my home.
