I am doing the model of a house which I also plan to render. I read that rendering sharp corners look unnatural and rounding them would produce much better results.

From some initial tests though it seems that rounding the corners removes some flexibility in reshaping the model (e.g. pushing and pulling walls). So is this corner rounding something that should be only done at the very end of modeling, or are there some techniques that will allow me to round the corners earlier while not loosing the flexibility of adjusting the model a bit?

Indeed it should be at the end(ish) - but before texturing as you will need to wrap the textures around the corners, too.

You can manipulate these rounded objects with the move tool - the way "stretching" is generally achieved with more complex shapes anyway. But this is of course much more laborious than using the PP tool.

This plugin can be a life saver: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=144180#p144180

Yes, that practically automates that "stretching" function.

I have also used this rounding method - although learnt from my experiences and if I use it again, will only use at the very end next time. Here are some images:

I even made custom materials for the pillars so that after rounding the pillars and wrapping the material around the pillars, the two ends of the material matched seamlessly. Now imagine when you need to modify something in such a model. I really hated my colleague sometimes. πŸ˜’
