Scale SU drawings in InDesign
-
Hi guys,
After doing a few Interior Design projects in Layout (im an Interiors student). I am starting to tire a little of Layout's clunkiness. I much prefer the high quality interface of InDesign to create presentations.
I wonder if there is any way to import a scaled SU drawing into an InDesign Doc, in the same way as as you can import into Layout. I realise that it would not be as straight forward, and I also realise that I couldnt alter the scale afterwards in InDesign as you can with Layout. But I wonder if it is possbible to get an accurate scaled drawing on there? Is it possible to create something in PDF and keep the dimensions??
Any help appreciated
Steven

I would also like to know that.
A (pretty bad) workaround i use is to quickly scale it with LayOut, export it as pdf and then place it in InDesign... if u want to change scale in InDesign later, u have to do the math yourself.. note that there is an option in indesign that always keeps the initial scaling percentage of an imported object visible, (so when u resize smth. to 50%, it shows 50% in the scaling box all the time). kinda helpful -
I would also say that exporting to scale to PDF or EPS or printing to PDF would be the easiest way. To create a 'to-scale' raster image is also possible, but it is more complicated, and you will have to go through an image editor:
- in SU, create a parallel view. Draw an empty frame with known dimensions round your model.
- export an image to a high resolution. Open the exported image in Photoshop.
- In Photoshop, crop the image to the frame you drew. If your background is uniform, you can use the Trim command
- Resize the image to the dimensions your frame should have on paper and to the desired final resolution.
- Now, if needed, you can crop the image further, when you save it, it will retain its dpi value so that it will get placed to Indesign to the right scale.
