Moving faces from one layer to another
-
Hi
I need to move faces from one layer to another. How do I do this please.
Thanks

You don't.
If you did, you would just select the face, right click > Entity info and change the layer there (and generally speaking, do it there). But please, for the sake of your own sanity, do not move any other entity than groups/components onto anything else than Layer 0 otherwise you will mess up your model. Layers do not separate geometry (groups/components do) and your face will still interact with geometry on other layers.

I will second Csaba's plea that you leave all edges and faces on Layer 0 and only make other layer associations for components and groups. It would be wise to heed what Google has to say on the topic of layers.

I like Google's comment from that link:

If you want to experiment with that, you'll need to take along your own search and rescue team!

I do, too, Peter.
I don't know how many models I've repaired for people over the years because they didn't use layers correctly.

Sometimes one is forced to use layers for reasons not directly to do with SU. For instance, the only way to separate different materials in a model you want to import into Revit is by using layers

Inside SU I find it often convenient to place all my glass on a separate layer that I can turn off when exporting to a vector-only format like EPS or PDF.

Anssi, that's true but as a general practice in SketchUp, it isn't a good idea to move edges or faces to other layers. Of course you know that and can deal with it for your exports to Revit.
