hello, after doing some cleaning up of plugins (ie removing a whole bunch i rarely need) I get this message on SUv8pro start up:

      Error Loading File yaml.rb
no such file to load -- date

& I can't work out what is invoking this... there is a yaml folder here: C:\Ruby186\lib\ruby\1.8\yaml but oddly no yaml.rb, has anyone any idea what i should do to fix this ?

      thanks

      paddy

SketchUp wouldn't be looking in C:\Ruby186\lib\ruby\1.8\ for a plugin file. It would be looking in either ...\Google SketchUp 8\Tools (which you shouldn't add files to) or \Google SketchUp 8\Plugins. Did you try running a search of your computer for it? Is it included or is it supposed to be included in some plugin?

Dave, I also wonder what plugin it is that wants this :-s I have manually downloaded yaml.rb & tried putting it in plugin folder: nothing doing 'cos it then wanted other files that are in the yaml directory in the ruby folder i showed in my 1st post... so i tried putting the whole kaboodle in the plugins directory: still not happy as it still looked for the files that were just there under it's nose...

It doesnt really matter, but I guess I would have to chuck out the plugins 1 by 1 until it stopped, but that would take ages, so i guess i'll just live with it...

          thanks anyway

You could run a search for "yaml" in the .rb files in your plugin folder.
(though, if it's required from a scrambled .rbs it won't yield a result, but it narrows down your options.)

Don't "chuck out" the plugins to find the problem. Look at it logically.

First, SketchUp itself doesn't need yaml.rb to start up.
Second, most plugins that consist only of a .rb file, won't be looking for .rb files other than sketchup.rb and perhaps progressbar.rb so you can eliminate those suspects.

So that leaves plugins that require other files which will be in folders inside the Plugins folders. Instead of chucking those out, just rename them appending .txt to them. They won't load when SketchUp starts so when you get the right one, you should not get the error.

Next, I think it would be safe to eliminate plugins by Thomthom, TIG, Chris Fullmer, and Fredo. I have quite a few of there plugins anyway and a search of my plugins directory didn't turn up yaml.rb. As Thomas said, if it is scrambled it wouldn't show in a search but at least you probably don't need to start with those plugins in your search.

Thanks guys for the advice: I did search in my plugin folder & couldn't find the offending yaml.rb...
Not sure I have the patience/time right now to hunt further, it's not a major hassle: However, if i do find out, i will post the answer here !

I actually need to spend some time working out how to get a sketchup model as a mesh onto a friend's grid in OpenSim (like 2nd life) as the viewers that support mesh import (2nd life v3 & Kirsten's) do not seem to be able to be forced to find the ip address of the friend's grid which is hosted on another mate's serveur grrrr & lovely viewers like hippo won't do mesh... hého, such is life, real life 😄
