      You can't really do anything destructive with Dynamic Components so they wouldn't help you cut up an octahedron as you show. You could create the various polyhedrons so they occupy the same space. Put them on different layers and activate the layers one at a time to give the appearance they are being cut down. You could do that with a Dynamic Component but there's really no need since you could also do it with layers and scenes or even just layers.

        Here's a quick example. I didn't add the color but it could be done to show the parts that get cut away. You could make it much more elaborate, too.

            Yes, that's right. I was thinking about this way: The octahedron is always truncated. With the DC I would just change the dimension X. Sorry for missleading. Perfect would be if I could change this X by something like a slider.

            @Pilou: amazing collection πŸ˜„

              Maybe you could use a Section Plane animation?

              Hi

                I did it like this. It works when I alter the component. Unfortunatley the whole model looks quite confusing (for students without SU experience).

                When I work with sections and scenes I'am afraid I can't control the amount of truncation. I just can switch between the preset scenes, is that correct? Could I control an DC by a slider? Even a self created one which comunicates with the octahedron.

                  As time goes by I fixed the problem with the sections πŸ˜„

                  It works now pretty good. If I worked with DC, could I control the amount of truncation without getting into the component and change the position of the section? Something like a slider would be perfect. Specially if I could control it from outside of the component. Can something be done by DCs?

                    Isn't there a really cool plugin that does this sort of thing? It graphs equations or something, and maybe one of the examples was similar? I'll see if I can dig it up. I just remember really having with it.

                      Ahh, found what I was thinking of.

                      D12Dozr showed an example of making a truncated sphere about 4 or 5 posts down.

                        OK, I'll test it. πŸ˜„
                        Do you mean that I should leave DCs for this kind ob problems?
