In FB, you can share things to custom lists, but it is very cumbersome (click on the padlock -> customize -> these people -> specific people -> type a custom list name). So in fact it is not intended to be used. That's why the FB stream contains lots of irrelevant posts...
On the other sides, there are several things in Google+ that are always exposed to people from outside the network (profile name, friend list).

I'm currently in a "hang out" right now. Anyone care to join? I think I advertised it to all my sketchup contacts, which is only like 19 right now.
So if you're near your Google+ account, sign in and try to join my hangout session. If you can't see it, add me to one of your Google circles and I should see that, then I'll add you to my circle, and you should be able to join me.....who knows how long I'll be here. An hour or two maybe?

wow, its a pretty lonely hangout I've started. We need to get more people on Google+. DaveR and Jim both tried to join, but Google plus is apparently past capacity at the moment, and it would not let them create their accounts.
Anyone else around want to join my hangout? Its wicked-awesome! Though, I'm AFk for the next 30 minutes while I go get lunch,

I got an invite from someone else but unfortunatly Google plus is full and told me to wait for release.

Hangout Fail between me and Chris. Though I was wholly to blame as my mic isn't working on G+? But other than that I say it'd be pretty cool to have a mass chat there.
It was hard to understand Chris with the Gimp mask on
