[Thanks very much for all everyone who gave us feedback on the LightUp Web players.]

I've pushed out a refresh of LightUp WebPlayers to bring them all up to v2.50. They should also now notice if your installed version is out of date. All are Digitally Signed Code for security.

      Browse to: http://light-up.co.uk/resources/webplayer/playertest.html

      • Windows Internet Explorer ActiveX
      • Windows Firefox 3.6, 4.0 and 5.0
      • Macintosh Safari 10.5+

Hopefully I've squashed the bugs that were reported by various people.

Will there be a version for Opera too? And Chrome?

Should be, given the FF LightUp plugin is a Mozilla style plugin so its a case of getting some Chrome manifest files together for this rather than extra coding.

          I'll keep you posted.

If it's a standard NPAPI plugin (like the firefox version) then it should work in most browsers (only I agree that "officially" supporting many browsers might be beyond the power of a small company)

At the moment, I don't have the exact description here, but this way it should be possible to add a plugin that does not yet support Opera (no guarantee):
If it is not listed in Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Programs, then click the "Add" button. You can name the protocol you like and then add the path to the plugin dll.
If necessary, right-click on the website and choose "mask as Firefox".

Great. You can get the LightUp WebPlayer dll from here:

              favicon

              (light-up.co.uk)

              MIMEtype is:

              application/x-lightup

              File extension:

              .luca

Tried from my home computer - FF5 (LU was working here - because it has disabled compatibility check) - but when I visit the page it does not detect my version is out of date. No offer to update. (Or is that not the expected behaviour?)

(will try on my troublesome work-computer on monday)

OK, I've now added proper Google Chrome support.

When pressing the "Download Plugin" button, you should now get a Chrome .crx Extension bundle if you're using Chrome.

Good to hear. I've had no problems with Firefox 3.6, Firefox 4.0 and Firefox 5.0

But you have the latest version if you're using the version I emailed you. πŸ˜•

For Firefox only (for now), you can check the version by visiting the page:

                    LightUp WebBrowser Plug-In

                    favicon

                    (light-up.co.uk)

and check out the last line which should give version info.

Updated Chrome And Firefox versions of LightUp WebPlayer to v2.6.3 to address some unwanted DLL dependencies.

Navigate with your browser to http://light-up.co.uk/resources/webplayer/playertest2.html, and you should be prompted for Installation if your LightUp WebPlayer is out of date.
