What will happen to the old Asgvis.com site?
-
Reading the notice on the chaos group home page makes it all seem kind of shadowy and negative. I hope the status of current users, regardless of where their original purchase was from, will be honored for future upgrades and whatever. I bought my license from Vray.com (odd that someone else has that site name), not Asgvis.
We'll see.

You mean ChaosGroup - which are the ones that actually develop V-Ray. ASGVis just made the plugin to bridge SketchUp and Rhino with V-Ray.

No. Chaos Group doesn't own the site name vray.com, that was the point I was making. It's owned by Visual Dynamics with a banner stating: "V-Ray is a trademark of Chaos Software LTD. This web site is not sponsored by, endorsed by or affiliated with Chaos Software LTD." I'm just surprised that Chaos Software didn't license the site name right at the beginning - rather a large oversight on someone's part.

yeap i can see the potential difference of interest here. nevertheless, i think these guys are professional enough to honor the things like this. again merger and acquisition have both two sides of the coins. -
I tried to reply something, and I got this:
*stefanq, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:1.Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2.If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.*And I found all my deleted messages (inbox and outbox).
By the way, Teo, if you read this, please empty your PM box, because I couldn't PM you. It's full. -
well, well well... it seems to me that all the postings are being migrated to http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums. There is now a new section for Vray Sketchup and Vray Rhino which is previously only VrayMax and Vray Maya. I tried to post something, but i have the same message as stefanq. I have written to maria paldalski, the one who took kimberly's job, i beleive she can help on this issus. so fingers cross hopefully the migration will be easy and we will not loose all the old postings.

There is some mess-up with the usernames. All my posts are under "thomthom_cg" or "imported_thomthom" - different depending on what page I look at.
But I got access to "thomthom" only. -
and I have no chance to do anything

We are working on integrating the forums with the Chaos Group site. It is their wish to have everything unified, which totally makes sense. There shouldn't be an asgvis site anymore, if there is no company called asgvis, right? As with any merging of data, there have been some hiccups, but we're hopeful that everything will be resolved soon.

glad to hear from you devin.. i just wish they just rename the former asgvis into whatever name they wanted.

Since we're all the same company now, it doesn't really make sense to have separate websites for our two plugins, and the rest of the company. Once we get the username stuff straightened out, everything should be fine. All of the posts have been ported over I believe, so all that's missing is user permission and naming convention issues. We understand that it's a rather big change, but by joining forces with Chaos Group as much as possible, and sharing resources, I am sure we will have a better end user experience once we are finished the merger.

Has anyone found the .vismat material collection and tutorials/models...?

i hope, all the tutorials, materials downloads, galleries, featured users, blogs and other things will still be there. -
After the initial shock of the change I realize what Devin was saying makes sense. No reason not to integrate it all together. Having said that, does anyone know if it is or will be possible to setup which forum threads are shown individually? I mean, back with ASGVIS there really was only two thread groups to deal with of which I only used the Sketchup based one (although there is great information in the Rhino sections as well). But now that Chaos Group has taken it over there are like 5+ groups of which I am only really interested in viewing one.
I hope this post isn't in violation of Sketchucation forum rules. If it is I offer my apologies, I would have posted this over at Chaos' forum if I had the privileges.

Yes - there are roll up/down buttons for each section.

I hope they get this sorted soon.

There's a little arrow to the right of every forum on the cg forums. If you click it, it will collapse like the fold panels in our material editor. I think I like their forum more than the one we used on our site.
