Accidental Workflow

John, Nomer had a project where his render output was a spherical image. He basically rendered a 360 degree image, like a spherical map HDRI. He used this 360 degree image as HDRI to render that statue in hypershot.
Nomer, that was under our noses, thanks for sharing!Oh, so he rendering an hdri?
Then that's amazing. How would one go about doing that?

I don't understand this - why is it amazing rendering a spherical HDRI?
Is it the HDR part, the spherical part, or that they can be combined and "re-used" as background/IBL in a new rendering?
That's how spherical HDRs have been used all the time, and AFAIK still one of the main reasons why you photograph a HDR spherical. -
sorry for the confusions guys. yeah it's all about the HDRI image done in SKetchup and Vray + Photoshop. I agree that we usually do it using several photos and stitch them together. But the crazy i just realized was to create it in sketchup world and use rendering engine to produce the enviroment. Did i thought it was possible? I know some people might have thought it.. but i dont have any idea that it was.
Why it was an accident? because it was not the intention to this. My orginal intention was to do a big spherical map 4000px X 80000 px for 360cities.net. They required at least that size. The only way to do this in vray is by rendering using VRImage outputting it in EXR file, thanks to the timely video of fernando rentas. The EXR output file (VRImage) is 32bit. When I saw the 32 bit I was enlightened.. yeah I can save this in HDR. I saved the spherical map in HDR. Immediately, I opened Keyshot and loaded HDR. The original intention was gone, inspiration came to try this new workflow. Lo to my surprise, if you use the HDR as background and IBL in keyshot, look at the amount of details you can see. Ussually in Keyshot, you need to have an extra backplate, while being lighted by HDRI. In this case I did not use any backplate because the detail generated by the HDR done in SketchUp in Vray was cool with that amount of pixels. This i beleive open further with the possibility of an excellent animation with frame rendering by less than a minute.
I knwo Stefanq can identify on me on this because, he played with HDRI in vray that much. so i am sharing you this accidental workflow which was not intended in the first place that way.

thanks to 360cities they published the sponza VR:berserk:

Nice one Nomer... It would be nice to be able to download these spherical images. Some of those are quite nice and would be useful for rendering.

indeed sid. once they are there you cant download them. but i found these tons of collection as good as..

sizes are 7500px x 3750px these are really excellent size. if you want you can always turn them into HDRimages.

I know this link....thanks Nomer.Wouldn't you need several exposures to convert to true .hdr... save as in photoshop is not really the same.

These images can't be created in SU with just project an image an some internal hemispheres then flat them?

that would be the ideal hdr, but if you are rushing to have one as an IBL, you can just convert it into 32bit image, maybe adjust the radiance... again this is a fast technique. it might not be a true HDRI, nevertheless it work. But also if you are using it as a background image, it work nicely too.
