Hi, as you can see from topic name i have problems when working with large files ( large due to importing 3ds models and setting materials for rendering ). When sketch up file goes over app. 40-50 mb it takes forever just to get response from clicking on something or simple actions and sometimes SU just crashes. I was wandering is there anything to do inside program or windows configuration that would help with that problem.
Oh yes, my hardware configuration dont have problems with 3dmax or other graphic programs so i suppose it should be good enough to work with SU.
      Thanks.

        Hi,
If I understand it correctly, when you are rendering inside SU ( which is a 32-bit app ), you are limited to 32-bit address space, even if you have 64-bit OS. If your file size is great enough, only feasible option is to use an external renderer, or to use a 3rd party app to compile a scene when SU is overloaded. Then you can benefit truly from 64-bit processes.

        Comfortably numb...

SketchUp doesn't like heavy geometry; it really is that simple. You'll only be able to work with files that are a tiny portion of the size of stuff that is routinely handled by most other modelling programs. Poser figures are out...as are Onyx trees or most manufacturers free CAD files of furniture. It's the inferencing system that is to blame.

There are a few simple things you can do...such as turning shadows off...and putting different sections of your model on different layers, then turning them off unless you are actually working on them or rendering them.

You might also like to take a look at this plugin (won't help with the rendering) which allows you to create and swap less heavy models while you are working.
