      Personally, I prefer to design my own sites, rather than simply assemble them online using the hosting company's wizard. It not only gives you more control over the design and function, but if you do decide to change hosts, you've still got the full site setup on your hard drive ready to upload to the new servers. Something like MS Frontpage works fine for most things. there are also plenty of free WYSIWYG HTML editors which enable you to assemble the site visually. Komodo seems to be pretty good.
      Once you've got the site and all the links working just the way you want it on your hard drive, you can then just upload the entire thing to your domain using an FTP client like Filezilla.
      Most of these clients operate the same way...with your hard drive in the pane on the left and the remote site in the pane on the right. All you need to do is read the documentation from the hosting company to see which folder to drop your files into...then it's pretty much drag and drop; and bingo! you're active.
      Doing it that way also means that you can dry run different things first, on your PC, without screwing up your actual site.

          WP, Joomla, Drupal and all just simple content management systems. You have an editor very similar to a word processor where you can ad links and all to your posts and such.

          Different engines but basically they all do the same. Don't worry about that part until you are there.

          Here is how the WordPress back-end of making a post looks like. Simpler than MS Word IMO.

          WP.png

          Alan, I have also made websites like that. I even often play around in the php scripts of my current sites but believe me, Pete is not the kind who would learn any of those html editors.

          An installed CMS system basically has three parts;

          1. database with all what you wrote (pages, posts, navigation and all)
          2. the files that work as a website (generally php)
          3. uploaded attachments (mostly images in case of Pete)
            All these things can be backed up and re-installed when you go to another host.

              What do you want to do with your website?

              Wordpress is a great blogging tool. Will you be blogging or will you have a static site?

                As for galleries; they are available for most of the cms systems (and there are tons of different gallery plugins).

                This one is WordPres for instance:

                  Okay, I have made the first step, I paid for two years, site lock and premium backup. Now I cannot back out. πŸ˜‰

                  Tallbridgeguy, I want to have images, sell models, some tutorial videos, um...that's about it. Maybe a blog, dunno what to blog about, but who knows I may think of something 3D related.

                    Pete, have you downloaded all the content from your existing site? Note that it may be shut of soon (as soon as they arrange the domain transfer). I don't know how you can access that site (and the back-end of it).

                      No I have not, I just signed up, I have not cancelled with Microsoft yet. I'm guessing I have time to build a site this month and by the 21st I can cancel my hosting with them and it should just work. πŸ’š

                        But Pete, your domain is going to be transferred soon. Can you access the back-end of your current site without the domain? If yes, no problem of course.

                        Well, these cms systems come in two, basic flavour: with mainly static pages and/or a blog like system with frequent posts.

                        The Nova Theme you said you liked is mainly a static looking site with constant things on the home page and the latest posts (I guess in a certain category) only rotating in the slider.

                        It has a blog part however (which you could even make your front page). I guess you could use this part as a place to constantly add new projects (in case you can share) or similar and leave the static content alone.

                          Pete, hostmonster typically gives you one free domain registration. I would suggest using your current domain url for a traditional website for commerce and then register a new domain for a wordpress blog.

                          Both would have unique urls and you can cross pollinate the material. (both work under your current plan.) Bonus having your work in multiple places plus you can use the wordpress postings on sketchucation instead of photobucket.

                          The blog would be a great place to show your process, work (which is fantastic) and give customers a great place to see WIP.

                            Very important;

                            1. Before you do anything, back up everything you currently have. Download all images and copy all text if you do not have a simple FTP access (your current site is not that difficult).
                            1. Send an email to all current work contacts that you are transferring your site and domain and until everything is set up correctly, they should be able to contact you via a different email adress.
                              This is important as it may take some time (even a couple of days) until an existing domain is transferred correctly and all the rest of the internet "gets used to it" (don't ask what this means)

                                            Step away from cpanel...you want to secure all your original website data first!

                                            TNameservers for a domain name are specialized servers that translate the domain name into an IP Address that is understood by computers on the internet. Each domain name registration includes a listing of nameservers that can answer for that domain name. Normally you should not need to change these from the default nameservers setup by HostMonster.Com. If your domain name is not currently pointing to our nameservers, in order for your domain name to work with this hosting account, you will need to either:
                                            (a) transfer your domain name to use our registrar, or
                                            (b) configure the nameserver settings at the domain's current registrar to point to our nameservers:
