Hopper Dredger "Crane"

excellent to see a true fanatic every step of his crazy path - thanks for sharing this is wonderful stuff. do you apply basic colour to elements (like buttons, console etc) in sketchup, before detailing it with the render software?
-
Everything is done in Sketchup, only the renders and baking are done in max:
-
wow! then in a funny way your work is even more amazing! all those special textures must take ages to apply.
-
Wow, amazing.
Maybe in the future we will have live tracking of ships via GPS so we can watch your ship models moving on Google Earth.
-
Thanks, Sketchup is by far the fastest at applying textures than any other modeling program i have ever seen, although this did take a while as there are 201 materials on the bridge alone
More details added on the bridge and a new helm modeled. Almost done here I guess, will still need to polish some areas and add some of the chairs, oh and all the fittings that sit on the ceiling.Just noticed my reflection in one of the textures...Noob!
-
Chairs in and fine textures seperated, although you cannot see it all the textures that will need to retain resolution in bake have been seperated so that when it comes to baking it will have its own texture and you will (hopefully) still be able to read everything written on the instruments.
Heres a photo of the real interior vs the current model ( I didnt quite get the angle on this render but ill get it when everything has been added :

Not Google Earth, but....
-
amazing - thanks for taking time to explain
-
Well here is a shot of the final lighting setup, the rudder indicator is missing here but it is modeled, had to create a special texture for it, was quite a challange, ill get a post up for it soon
-
And heres the Final product in game : (Still need to add the instruments)
-
Getting there...Still need to render the new texture for the Wheel and get the throttles in,oh and of course the doors. But after adding the working bits and our renowned skipper,I thought Id show and tell.
-
Looks great!
-
Thanks Jason, And heres another Angle with the new helm and doors :
-
This is awesome work. You may have answered this before but I'm new - so what game is this in?
-

Work on the Model has finally begun,I decided on a scale of 1:40 which brings her overall length to 1.33m. The Hull Blueprints which where made in Sketchup from the Original Drawings, where printed onto a A0 page and Stuck onto a 1.8m x 1.0m .6mm Sheet of Plywood using woodglue, and then painfully cut out using a jigsaw cutter :
This is the same process when making a ship in sketchup, and its just as much fun! ....although the copy and paste buttons are disabled in real life.
-
Ooh. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
-
wow a true modelling fanatic!
beware: in real life, another tool that doesn't work is Ctrl+Z!are you modelling for fun?
-
