Seems the new fashion anywhere but sure maybe not with any risk

Simon,
Thanks for linking this here for everyone. This is a local issue (central PA) for me that can't be publicized enough in my opinion. I had not seen the NYT piece & especially liked the interactive map. It amazes me every day the lack of concern or attention this get's in the local press / news outlets here. Every now and then there will be something - but it passes quickly, and is forgotten. Those that stand to make obscene amounts of money from this have bought the necessary politicians to keep any roadblocks from slowing their progress.
Just as with the oil industry - there is no chance that the average resident can do anything to stop them. And with the price of oil climbing higher based on speculation - the federal govt. has no intention of slowing their retoric on "home grown fuel independence". The wonderfull state of PA is one of only a few affected that does not have a sufficient Tax / regulations in place to protect from the "gold rush" type atmosphere which currently exists. In fact recent efforts will make sure that some previously protected state lands will be available for drilling in the future.
The money to be made with the leases is such that most landowners can not resist the temptation, especially since many have been fighting off forclosure. And the off-shoot boost to local economies has most locals looking the other way to the negatives as their stores and restaurants, and businesses profit from the workers and company's that are doing the work to create and manage the drill sites.
I love this state and there are so many beautifull places, natural places here along rivers and streams that wind through the valleys. It makes me very sad to think of what the whole NG industry is going to do to change the landscape over the course of the next 3, 4, 5 decades.

Dear Simon,
Next thing you know they will blame it all on BP. Rather ironic, don't you think! The potential for pollution is astonishing, and the consequences far reaching.
Thanks for posting.

Hi Dean,
It is so sad for your land,
it is so unacceptable to see powers (politic&industry) playing with our health,
it is so exasperating to note that common people usually prefer look in another direction and forget..
As I have heard, Hydraulic Fracturing is coming in Europe
@Pilou and Bob,
The world needs plenty of friends like you..~~s

Thank you Pentti my friend for the links++
Then we can understand what's going on in a second:
@Pilou
Mon cher Pilou la panique s'empare de moi!!! Il y a une autorisation pour faire du fracking à deux pas de la maison..

The industry has tried de-debunking Glasland with specious and misleading claims. Some affected people have simply been silenced http://1trickpony.cachefly.net/gas/pdf/Affirming_Gasland_Sept_2010.pdf
@unknownuser said:
WHAT HAPPENED TO THESE FAMILIES:
... Of the three cases, Mike and Marsha chose hauling water. They go to town once or twice a week to buy water from a coin-operated machine, as detailed in the film.
Renee McClure moved out of the area, presumably because of her water and health problems in Weld County.
Amee and Jess Ellsworth chose to negotiate with the gas company and have now been silenced, compelled to sign a non-disclosure agreement. I checked in with Amee recently to see how she was doing. She said, with regret in her voice, “I can’t talk to you about gas.” She can no longer talk on the record about what happened to her. I don’t know the details, but I do know that she is still being delivered water by the company. She cannot speak to me or anyone about the gag order she was compelled to sign, I found out from a third party. She had to trade her silence for water. At that moment, the truth lost a very powerful and articulate voice. Without water, you cannot sell your property, and without water you cannot stay on your property. Amee and Jesse’s backs were against the wall; they took the only way out of the nightmare. They sold their first amendment rights for water.
In Dimock, the water problems continue. Cabot Oil and Gas is supplying water to 32 families as ordered by PA DEP, (up significantly from the 4 families that John Hanger notes in the film). In Hickory PA, replacement water is rampant, with some reports stating that over 200 families are receiving replacement water in exchange for non-disclosure agreements. Why should people have to sign an NDA to get clean water after a multi-billion-dollar corporation contaminates their water? Is it right for people to have to trade their silence for what should be their right?
Personally I feel that this method of natural gas production quite scary. As once groundwater becomes contaminated, it will be extremely costly and possible impossible to clean up.

About Fracking in France.
Here is an important video (created on 26 janv. 2011) taken at the National Assembly of France
A question relative to Hydraulic Fracturing was asked by Pascal Terrasse, president of the conseil général of Ardèche to Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, current Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and HousingPascal Terrasse evokes exclusive licenses for mines hydrocarbon "detection" granted by France to American companies.
He reminds Hydraulic Fracturing process, and the chimical high dangers linked . He also speak about the "experiment returns coming from US" as they arouse the greatest alarms.Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet Reply that her attention had already been pointed out by the dangers of the fracking technics.
She affirms that authorization to exploit Shale gas as done in USA will never be given where "dangerous techniques, environmentally destructive therein used"
