I do this after activating the tool, but the default behavior is stretching with the bounding box - where the problem is. If I draw the bounding box with the tomtom's Draw bounding box plugin to check it is fine. 😮

I opened the file but there's no component. Just loose geometry. When I make a component of it and run the stretch tool, it works just fine.

Because it is a component - You have to insert it as a component. Checked this - exploded and recreated it - the same. Also did the same as You - the same error as before. When I zoom in the misalignment can be seen -

It seems like the default is not stretching with the bounding box 😮 😮

Even if I import your SKP so it comes in as a component, I have no problem with the box not aligning correctly. I'm not getting the problem.

Strange! Anyway, I made everything from scratch and now seems OK. But I always thought the default is to stretch with the bounding box - I have to be careful in the feature! 💭

Interesting thing. I just made a cylinder and tried it. With that I do get what you are showing and the alignment is off by 7.5°. I drew the initial circle dragging out the radius along an axis. The Stretch tool puts aligns the green bounding box to the shortest dimension across the circle which means it ends up being skewed a bit.

Yes, something is not right! I use this tool a lot and this behavior is very annoying!

It kind of makes sense to me on the cylinder because the tool is making the smallest possible bounding box however I would guess that's not really desired in the case of the cylinder since you'd want it to treat it as a cylinder and not a 24-sided polygon.

I think the tool is aligning with the nearest segment of the circle that forms the cylinder, since you mentioned that 7.5 degree offset. Again, this is just a guess.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

Yes, that's how I came up with the 7.5°. The box is aligned with the shortest dimensions across the circle and not treating the circle as a circle but as a 24-sided polygon.

                            This is correct.
Unfortunately, for symetrical shapes like circles, this may not represent the intuitive orientation. I am afraid there is no magic fix in the general case.

The best is simply to orient the box manually to the desired direction (click on an edge in the model, or using the arrows for aligning on model axes).
