Big time for shaded model fims
-
my latest model, a komplex layout with buildings and accessories takes 2:15 hrs to export to an avi file containing 2135 frames. This is done in a 14 scenes animation. I have redone
the scenes now with shades put on. The developing time is now 21:35 hrs. Does anyone have clue as to why it is such a big difference? Thanks for any hint! Michael Neyses, Germany -
Hi Michael and welcome!
Shadows will always slow down your model. While modelling, they are supported by the video card (if it can support them) and when exporting, they are supported by the software itself. It is a normal thing to experience a considerable difference between navigating/exporting without and with shadows.
To tell the truth, with some photorealistic rendering engines it can even take less time to export if they support either GPU rendering or preserving shadow information (i.e. when you do not animate the sun for instance).

Not only shadows will slow things down, but Edge Styles. They affect performance at least as much as shadows.

Anti-aliasing is probably the worst performance killer when exporting.
