I've been on this site a lot in the past year and a half taking in all I can to help push my own abilities with SketchUp. This forum is such a great resource. I haven't posted many images up because it can get intimidating with so many great renderers/illustraters/designers and I wanted to wait until I got to a point where I was happy with what I've created before I posted. So here it is, more or less my first gallery post of images I've created. I see this as the culmination of all that I have learned from my time here.

The project is for a home design competition. It is a lakeside cottage. These are my favorite two images out of nine. If I make it past the first round of judging I might try to solicit votes for the second round... anyhow, I modeled everything in sketchup rendered with Thea, post pro in photoshop. Almost all the plants are from solo's garden pack, the ivy is from the twilight forum, (great program as well as Thea) Pine trees where created with rp tree maker. The background image is one of Olishea's fantastic treelines images. cc's are more than welcome, but be gentle. If there are any questions or interests in something I can share let me know. I'd love to give back to the community.

Again, a big thanks to the whole forum to help me get to this point.

      Cheers

Well, if you've learnt most of what you can now do here, SF must really be a great place!

I like the images very much, I can say πŸ‘
(if only I were as deliberate and consistent in learning rendering as I hope to have been in learning SU, I could also be more proud of my work!)

I gotta agree with Gaieus, i'm not a rendering guru, i barely qualify as a noob, but i do like what i see here! You should post more of your work. I'd also like to hear what the Pros think?

Congrats on a job well done πŸ‘

Thanks for the comments guys. I guess I didn't learn the rendering stuff here but there are a lot of some subtle things to pick up from each of the gallery's. It is a good starting point though. What I really learned is how to model well, how to push what you can do with SketchUp. What I hope I'm learning is how to create a good architectural visualization by bring life to a scene, creating an appropriate atmosphere and give it a little extra edge with some post-processing. Now that this project is over I hope to participate in the community a little more.

Very nice work. My only question is the water. Could it use a little subsurface scattering as light penetrates the surface. As is looks more like thick unprocessed oil. BP style. The other night I left a flashlight standing on a marble counter with the rest of the lights off. With all lights on the marble seems solid, but with only the flash light you realize how much light is reflected back through the depths of the marble. So a combination of transparency and SSS (sub surface scatter)might create a very different water.

Rich, I agree with you the water does seems like thick oil. The problem I ran into is that the water is pretty shallow in the scene and with a better water material you would see the bottom of the lake too well and I didn't have time to make that area look convincing. I did use another water material in my other scenes and it doesn't look as oily but they still have a similar problem.

                Thanks for you comment

I really like the images especially the inside!! Whee can I find/buy solo's plants, rp tree maker and olisheas tree lines? I like the details such as the birds and the cup on the arm rest. Did you model the furniture?

olishea's treelines can be found at his post here:

You can buy solo's plant's on his website:
                    http://solosplace.com/3Dgarden.aspx
The rp tree maker can be downloaded here:
                    http://www.renderplus.com/wk/RpTreeMaker_Free_w.htm
The cup was made from a plugin created by a member here, thomthom you can find it here:
                    http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=24079

The birds where just a quick google image search and the appliances came from the 3d warehouse, everything else I modeled, hope that helps.

Tails, it's the last link in my post, you have to scroll down and download the plugin which will create a teapot, cup and spoon.

I posted a fully textured cornhole game the is in the exterior render in the components section of the forum here:
