I'm working with some complex geometry and using Outer Shell to merge two groups. A lot of geometry remained inside. I'm attaching a file that shows what happened. Some is loose geometry and some might be other solids.

I expected Outer Shell, in fact all the solid tools, would yeild only another solid object or objects but this did not happen.

    Best,

    Jimbo

Using 10.6.5 on a MacBook Pro, with SU 8.0361.

      Jim,

It's the small-geometry problem. Scale that up 100x, then try Outer Shell.

        Jim—

I'm not clear how the small geometry issue would leave geometry inside the successfully merged Outer Shell.

Issue 2, when expanded 100x, it still does not read as a solid.

        Best,

        Jim

          .

          look at this skp --

          outer_shell_issue_reup.skp

in this case, i didn't scale up..
wondering if jim did anything else to the skp prior to outer shell?

I don't remember, but it's possible. However, I just tried it again, this time scalingup 10x and Outershell cleared the inner geometry again. And you are correct, the final piece is not a Solid when using this method for reasons Jeff has indicated.

            Hi
