Huge Layout Files
-
Hello out there: Is there a way to economize on Layout file sizes?
I'm using Layout some and I'm noticing it produces huge files and they grow quickly. Two examples: One, I've got a model of an office warehouse about 15,000 sf in area. The SketchUp file is about 14mb and it's Layout mate is 42 mb with only about 10 pages, each with one large image referencing the model and a little text. The bigger problem is a residential addition and renovation that is about 5,000 sf in area. There's a fair amount of detail in the model, with probably 30 scenes. The SketchUp file is 26mb. The Layout file is 126mb! and becoming quite slow. It has 20 pages, each with one or two images referencing the model. I'm trying (in vain?)to do a simple "builder's" set. I've got some pages with dimensions and a couple with a fair amount of text. I need a few more pages with images and I need to add text and dimensions to most pages. There will be few if any details. "Captain, she can't take much more! She's about to blow!" Please help if you can.Dave

The LayOut file contains the skp file and all the rendered models.
What do you have your "Edit Resolution" set to? By default its
Medium. I would set that to low and see how it feels. -
j- thanks, much. Is edit resolution in SketchUp? I couldn't find it during a quick check of the layout menu tabs. I'll check in sketchup. Thanks.

In LayOut, File->Document Setup, Paper - at the bottom is Rendering Resolution. You can also go to References and click on the button "Purge" if you've added a model or image but are no longer using it.

b- I did find it. I had the edit resolution on high. I set it at low and it's
made a huge difference. Saving and changing pages on the order of 10x faster!.
The dimensions command doesn't seem to work quite as accurately, but it gets me
close enough. I think there's a slight loss of accuracy in layout anyway. I just
adjust the text, since I know what the dimensions should be. Please thank j, as well. Dave
