I was trying to make something like this:
I just couldn't figure out how to make the glowing ball have a reflection and light up at the same time.

Here you have a very quick try in Kerkythea: just a dielectric glass sphere with thickness with an emitter sphere inside.

I'd suggest making the glowing ball a glass material, giving it a degree of illumination, I'd also suggest using an HDRi for reflections.
