An idea...

Hey everyone!
had a quick thought...
A plug-in contest
people vote for the best plugins, and the top ones get to be added as a permanent addition to Google sketch-up's next major update
Of course each plugin would have to be close to error free... And each of the authors would get credit as the maker of the plugin
I don't know but, I would like to see some of these plugins in the next version...
what do you think? could this work? Thanks

Even if Google would go for that, which I don't think is very likely, there are a few things here...
"best plugins" is very subjective to the user. As one can see from the "Top 3 Plugins" thread. I like the concept of a sparse base where people add what they want. That way you don't get any bloat.
How would the plugins be updated? The plugins made by third party developers are usually update much more frequently than SU. Bundling it with SU would seem to tie it down. Don't think I'd want that.
I just don't see a whole lot of benefit from having plugin pre-installed. I'd much rather have a plugin management system. One which connects to various repositories and let you quickly browse and install/update plugins.

i see....
I would like to see a plugin browser like you described!
that would make it much easier! It would be also cool if it could load those plug-ins up without having to restart!
I know that would be hard to do but it would be very helpful to have! Thanks

That is possible. Though uninstalling will require restart and updating may require restart.

that makes sense...
looking forward to these updates! would love to have them in place!
