      Hi all,

I want to change some part of my computer (mother board/cpu/Graphic Card and RAM).. and I was asking myself wath would be the best choise to make SU and Vray work in the best conditions..
Does SU and Vray support multi core processor ?
Which Motherboard/GC/CPU/RAM would you advise ?

      I actually use that :

      Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 3.3
      CPU : Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6750
      RAM : G.Skill Value DDRII 2 x 1 Go PC6400 NQ (4Go)
      CG : Asus EN8800GT/G/HTDP/512M

      I also use 2 hard drive raptor 10000 trs/min in RAID 0

Thanks for your advises ! 😄

SU will use only one core.
V-Ray will make use of all cores.

You want a decent OpenGL graphic card for SU. (I recommend nVidia as they seem to have better OpenGL compatible drivers. I've had less issues with SU and nVidia than SU and ATI)

Since SU use only one core you want as fast a CPU as possible.

For rendering, V-Ray, you want as many cores as possible (and as fast and you can afford)

RAM: SU is a 32bit app and VfSU run inside SketchUp's process so it'll only be able to make use of about ~2GB RAM. However, having more RAM and a 64bit OS still allows you to run a smooth OS as there's free resources available for other application you're running at the same time. Also, since you're rendering, you'll be using an image editor, like PhotoShop, where a decent lump of RAM is of good use.
