Error opening KMZ File
-
Hi,
I am trying to open a kmz file in sketchup and I get an error.
I have created the kmz file from arcgis by converting a shapefile. I checked the kml file in GoogleEarth and can view it there (so I guess there is nothing wrong with the kml file).
I am unable to figure out why Sketchup (version 8 Free, OS= Windows XP) won't open my kmz file. I don't know if it is a version issue. I am using ArcGIS 9.3.1
I would greatly appreciate if someone can shed some light on this issue. (Attached is a screenshot of my error)
Thanks.

I hope this is the right sub-section to post in.

Hi JZ,
Unfortunately collada versions (the model file with an extension *.dae inside the kmz archive) are often not compatible with each other.
Could you attach the kmz in question if it is not too large?
Also, maybe the geometry in it is not defined in an embedded collada file but inside the kml itself in which case it seems to be a no-go... -
Hi Gaieus,
I am attaching the KMZ file. I looked at the Sketchup requirements and I was not sure if my kml/kmz qualifies.
Also, just to re-iterate, I am exporting a shapefile from ArcGIS 9.3.1 as a KMZ, but the kml opens fine in Google Earth and I can see it. Its just sketchup that fails

Hi JZ,
Sorry for the late reply...
So just what I thought - the kml filedefines the geometry itself.
SketchUp can only read *.dae files that are "archived" inside the kmz file. SU generally puts them into a subfolder called "models".Rename your kmz extension to zip and when opening it, you can see that there's just a single kml file.
Is there any other way your program can export to kmz (or dae)?
