Ok, so I have a new machine, unfortunately I won't be able to set it up for another few days but also unfortunate is I have lost some of the install discs for a few key programs. Nowhere to be found... (not too surprising as our house is a wreck).

Are there any reliable programs out there that will allow the transfer of programs from one machine to another?

Also, I have never set up a network before. I hear with Windows 7 it is a breeze. Is that true?

      Thanks.

        Hi Eric,

Windows 7 is surely a breeze and if your coming from XP it takes a little time to get your head around the new 'Library' feature. Which kind of programs have you lost?

Photoshop is the main one. I am still running version 7. I really should upgrade but with all the freebies out there maybe I should not. I have an old copy of Autocad as well, 2004 to be exact. I don't really use it anymore but like knowing it is there in case I need it for some reason.

Well I found my Autocad and Photoshop programs in the move. I have not finished setting up the new machine but I have done all the transfers from the oldest machine to the current one (middle child). Now I can continue to use an outdated version of Photoshop, woo hoo!

Yes it is. I have had the darn thing in house since October 1st and have not been able to set it up. It has been killing me. Not only did I get a new machine but we wanted to change the office setup. This meant two new desks, one for me and one for my wife. The old comp. desk of 15+ years is now sitting curbside in flat sections (that was fun to bust apart 😎 ). Then there was the business of moving all my wife's files, emails and programs to this machine, I am now calling the middle child πŸ˜„ . Then I had to physically move the middle child and get set up for the new kid. We also took a mini vacation which halted the install.

That is all done, now I get to plug it in and start installing stuff. Unless I screw something up I should be up and running by tomorrow. Then I get to learn how to network computers (worried).

I plan on taking almost everything off the oldest machine so my daughter will have a computer. But you know the old saying... "You can polish a turd but it is still a turd". Maybe I will get her a netbook for Christmas.

I just upgraded my donk to WIN 7 / 64 Bit / 8Gb RAM after I got back from Basecamp. I think it's pretty cool although like Rich said, the Library function is a little confusing....

Ugh, why I always get the oddball problems I will never know. Maybe it is my attitude πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ 😑

I finally have my new computer all hooked up. There is power to the mouse (lit up). There is power to the multimedia reader on the front (lit up). There is power to the motherboard (lit up). However when I press the power button the computer will not turn on, nor will the DVD drive open up. Something must have either been installed incorrectly or come loose during shipping. And tech support is not open for another 7 hours. Sigh...

                      Eric

I bet ya it was during shipping.

When I recieved mine the ram was loose, so open it up and check that everything is in place and no wires are dangling...UPS are slack.

Sure enough. Both the reset and power wires were loose.
                        Starting up now...
