Exporting sketchup to other 3D programs

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum. I really like Sketchup and its simplicity and ease in making quick study models. However, it seems that I can't get the material, transparencey and lighting very well. So, I thought if I were to export it to other 3D programs, I would then be able to use it as a model in that program, and manipulate it from there. But, it's been frustrating.
I have exported it into 3D autoCAD, and it doesn't allow me to modify the materials simply. I have had to delete a lot of the model and replace it with 3D autoCAD stuff. Is there a method or procedure in exporting the sketchup model? or does Sketchup already have good material and lighting options that I am not aware of?
I've also tried to manipulate a sketchup model in Revit, but it doesn't allow me to modfiy it. It just comes in as an editable object.

you can edit the transparency of translucent materials by selecting paint bucket>then applying the texture to a face (click desired translucent )> select edit the opacity.
I use sketchup8 and to tell you the truth the quality of the materials are pretty good it takes a little time to learn the finer points but when you do....

So, I am using the a translucent glass material for the windows and the sun light comes through those, but then, I have a couple layers of that same glass material inside of the outside window wall, and the sunlight doesnt show to be going through them when it should. -
Try adding the material to both sides of the glass / Face.
