    HI,

    I seem to be having a snag in trying to install some new styles from the SketchUp Artist website. I bring the .zip file in, change to .style, put in Sketch up 'style' folder, and when I open sketch up there is a blank in the styles window where that style should go. Sketch up recognizes that something is there, but can't activate the style. When I try to open it in style builder, it won't open, and I get this: File 'old-paper.style' is not a sketchy-edge style. Style Builder can not open this file.

    Does anyone have an idea what I could be doing wrong here. It is the same for all the styles I've tried from this site. I'm on Mac OSX and would like to encorporate some of these styles in my work..thanks, Keea

      ok, found it.. (sort of)

      by default, your Archive Utility app is set to "Keep expanding if possible"

      you can change that by launching archive utility at:

      Macintosh HD-> System-> Library-> CoreServices-> Archive Utility.app

      once launched, go to the preferences and uncheck the "Keep expanding if possible"

      you'll now be able to double-click the zip package and it will change to a proper style.

        not really sure what's going on but i did a little poking around and found:

        i have safari preferences set to "Open 'safe' files after downloading" in which case, the files comes in as a .style and works as a style..

        if i switch that preference to off, then i get the .zip as you're getting.. switching the extension from .zip to .style has no effect (other than the icon changing to a style icon) and i can't use the style

        if i double-click the zip to unpack it, i get the folder... OSX's Archive Utility.app does the unzipping

        if i use stuffit free to unzip then it changes to a proper working style..

        i might investigate further later in the day.
