Ruby to rotate overhead view 90 degrees around blue axis?
-
I'm trying to create a plan view, so I select camera | parallel projection, and then camera | standard views | top. But of course it's rotated 90 degrees from the view I want. For the life of me I can't figure out how to rotate the camera - it really jumps around when you are looking straight down. And of course you can never get it exactly lined up using the mouse. Is there a ruby out there that does this? CB.

I did see a ruby that allows you to change the default of the standard views, but i don't remember where. If I find it I'll post back.
I'm sure someone will chime in soon.In the mean time have you considered just rotating the entire model 90deg?

Use eye, target AND up.

I posted a small plugin to do just this. It's around here somewhere...

OR .. go to the Help menu ...
click "Welcome to Sketchup"
choose Template..
pick one of the Plan View Templates. -

Perfect! I did a quick search before I posted, but didn't think to use the term "roll". That's exactly what I needed. Thanks Jim! CB.

You're right; I've edited the title of that post to include "rotate". That will make it easier to find. I'm glad it's useful.

You can also take an object oriented the way you want your plan, and create a new axis using that object. For your new axis blue is still on the Z axis for your model, set the green axis to go in the direction that you want to be at the top of your screen in plan view.
You can save this as a scene and always jump back to it.
