All these are fine renders, excellent job all of you.

@blajnov: I prefer two chairs here, not three, a sofa is even better. ๐Ÿ˜†
      Well done.

Maybe there are some tutorials on this sort of thing so if you could point me in the right direction...

A lot of those suggestions would depend on the rendering software you used but forgot to mention.

Generally speaking, a bigger size light will provide softer shadows in many rendering apps.

...I actually just found it through trial and error - there's a soft shadow tick box in the sun settings - can't believe I didn't see it before...

            ๐Ÿ‘
OK, if you check that box, you are going to get soft shadows. Now how soft they should be is up to the sun radius that you can also control.

Note that soft shadows will increase render time a bit (the softer the longer). This scene would also be a cool one for volumetric lights in Kerky if you want to play around with it. That increases rendering time too however but the scene itself is not too complex so there should not be any problems.

                    Hi guys,

Thought I'd have a go at this one. I might try another few of the old ones as it has been great practice, especially when learning new software.

This was rendered in Arion for about an hour. I'm quite pleased with the results. Set up time was about 15 mins for the textures and lighting.

                    Comments would be very welcome.

                    Regards,

                    Puck

                      Some more tweaking.

Thanks Pete, it's a nice scene for a 'render this' thread, the brick wall inspired me somehow a dramatic scene (and then I saw some other had the same feeling)... I made a quick one with kerkythea and gimp.

here is my attempt, twilight, mostly kerkythea materials, DOF added in photoshop, the glass chair didn't turn out the best in the render but the DOF kind of hides it. I think I need to practice using the fur plugin a little more to get a more realistic distribution of ivy. Also I think the ivy has too much of a shine to it. I used the paint (flat enamel) preset in twilight, anyone have some suggestions on a better preset?

                          Cheers,

                                Hi Everybody,

Since I've never entered a render challenge before, and because I love the scene and model Oli made, I decided to join in. Here's my contribution:

Rendered for about 8 hours in Indigo on MLT setting

Puck you're stone wall looks a bit shiny, but otherwise its looking good, especially the glass / clear chair.

Thats a nice image jeremy...Good post pro in photoshop!
Just goes to show what a difference it can make.
If you dont mind me asking what procedure did you follow in photoshop?
I tend to go for duplicate layer, add gaussian blur, set to soft light, reduce saturation and adjust curves.

would be good to know what others do!
