Toolbar help
-
Hopefully many of you by now have checked out Shaderlight, the new interactive render plug-in for SketchUp. Here at Shaderlight HQ we're gearing up for the release of the full version but have run in to a bit of a problem that we need your help to resolve.
Should we colour our toolbar icons or leave them as they are!
Opinion in the office is split - so as you'll be using the software, we thought we'd let you decide by running a quick poll.
Thanks!

I say add colour to them. And not necessarily the same colour. Icons should be visually distinct - the eyes will try to locate the correct button from it's shape and colour. If they are too similar the brain needs to slow down to correctly identify the correct one.
Example: Adobe CS/CS2 had that white square icon with a minor glypth to indicate what app it was. I found them very hard to tell apart. With CS3 (or was it four?) they still had a square, but with the initial of each app in big bold letters and each icon in a different colour that made it much easier to tell them apart. (I remember reading at a blog that many thought they where not as pretty as the old - but they missed the whole point of icons - to be visually representative.)
Your icons has nice shape contrast - and with some colour contrast they'll be even easier to tell apart. Give the brain more stimulus to work with.

I like the B&W, perhaps as long as no one else does it, but how does it affect the product's performance? Sigh its 5:47am and I haven't yet got to sleep.
Btw, Last time I looked, I didn't see a price tag. Bet that's harder to set then the color of the menu.
