Stopping Snap
-
I am trying to draw some arcs, and the Snap settings are simply getting in the way. How do I turn Snap on or off, and decide what to snap to? Help keeps mentioning an Arrange Menu, or Context menu and i can't find that.
Any help appreciated.

Hey Nick, there is no way to turn off snapping or to selectively choose what to snap to.

thanks very much for the reply.
Dang! That's a nuisance. It snaps to all sorts of weird and distant places if you are unlucky.

This might not be your case, but I have found it very useful to get used to zooming in and out A LOT! I feel like I am almost constantly zooming in and out. It makes it easier to get clear ot objects that the cursor wants to snap to. That might help,

AHAH! So the snap is zoom sensitive? I have seen this before and was wondering but had not had a chance to try it. Basically just sat down. I will give it a go.

Thanks a mill for that! Much better!

If you are dealing with very small differences, and zoom in closer, you will encounter the "clipping" phenomena, where the model starts to vanish as you get closer. This is annoying but normal. Took me over a year of frustration to find out how to avoid that.
To stop clipping, click on the camera drop-down menu and turn perspective off. You will now be able to get in very very close. However, clipping is reversed and the model starts to vanish as you zoom out, and it will look somewhat distorted. Then just turn perspective back on.
You can put the Perspective Icon toolbar on by clicking on View Toolbars Options. The "Camera Perspective" button is 2nd from the right.
Also, if you are very close to the object when you turn Perspective off, the view will suddenly zoom far out, and you can lose sight of the object. So, to minimize that, select the object, or something close by before you switch off, and now you have a target to easily relocate.

Wow! I am seriously glad you told me that. I have worked with drafting programmes that did that sort of thing, and it can be very frustrating. So thanks for passing on a workaround and saving me (and I hope others) a lot of trouble.
