Hi can we have some speed improvements for sk 8 maybe using opencl or direct compute i say this and not cuda just to make this for everyone Skethup could be on the same level than the others modeling programs..

Which part of SU could make use of the massively parallel nature of GPU computing?

Everything ... just imagine sketchup handling billions of polys
god we will be happy if sk could handle 1 big tree with a high polycount !!!
ovbiously it will need a lot of work to make it work
but who is not tired seeing a lot of other modeling programs making that big and complex scenes ??

Well if you can think of a way of splitting up the process of displaying the model on the screen im sure the development team would be very pleased to hear about it.

Sorry if i sound a little terse, but its very easy to say 'speed up SU using the gpu', but to actually do it is a far more complex process (which is probably why no 3d programs utilise openCL/CUDA for displaying the model.)

And note the most other modelling apps doesn't have the type of viewport presentation as SU does. They usually display much cruder mesh and leave all presentation for the rendering part. While SU display presentation graphic straight into the viewport.
