      View Model Info> Statistics:
Each time I start a new file, I do some modeling, maybe create some groups and components, but assign no materials or textures in the early stages. I usually save the file after it has some reasonable amount of geometry.
I have noticed that these files have accumulated 9 materials. Is this just a default thing with Sketchup?

So, I select Purge Unused and the 9 materials go away, since I have assigned none.

Then, out of curiosity, I select the Fix Problems button. Generally, there are none. What type of problems can accrue, and what exactly does the term Validity mean here?

      Thanks

The default templates with Sang or Bruce or whichever Google employee has material applied to them. When you delete the component the materials are still present.

After importing 3D geometry from other file formats. Or some plugins. You might experience SU catching some minor error. Some times even from just plain SU tools - but I don't have a specific reproducible example.

          Thanks, ThomThom:
Your reply is sufficient. I should have realized the materials thing being related to the default component geometry. (Apparently, all 3d programs insert a default object?)
It seems that the validity check was automatic when there was a problem earlier on in my modeling "career". Not that it can't happen again, and again, and again.
