      Hi all,

I'm a computer studies teacher planning to introduce a new architecture/interior design course at a private school i teach.

Thought about Vectorworks, but more and more interested in Sketchup (it's free for education! 😄). Anyone know of any curriculum for HS aged students?

Anyway, still exploring and looking to see if BIM is possible with Sketchup.

Hope to learn a lot within the next few months before deciding what software to use for our school program.

      Richard

Well I'm stumped there, how about you look through the Google Sketchup website for such. I know some others gave lectures, maybe you'll benefit more from them. But really if you know a lot about SU then you won't need a curriculum package.

              ah, okay.

BIM is building information modeling. in architecture packages (advanced) you are able to place a wide variety of information concerning that component of the structure such as its properties, location, spatial information, etc. Literally be able to click on a wall for example and it tells you what materials are there, price of the chosen material used, etc.

Is there anything resembling this in Sketchup?

              Thanks.

I'm sorry to say but upfront Sketchup can't do that, maybe with help form available plugins yes.

Ask some Ruby Guru's or search the web, they might cost a few bucks but that better than paying for a BIM program that costs hundreds of dollars. If you don't want to go through all of that work then go ahead and use the BIM software.

I'm just saying all the knowledge I have right now, I know a lot about SU but I'm barely working with it for a year now. But the point is SU is great for beginners because its easy (five year olds really can use it) and is a great intro to 3-D modeling.
