Last year we offered a Kindle as a prize for our rendering contest. Kindles were pretty hot, although the winner chose a free copy of our software instead. (Which turned out great because Patrick now uses it for renderings and puts a lot of them on his blog - Sketching Ypsi)

What is hot this year, and would excite people as a prize ($400 to $600, or $150 or so, please 😉 )

For me, Apple will own this year with the iSlate. That is of course if it lives up to expectations. All will be revealed on the 27th.

Sources claim it will be lower priced than the iPhone, so that's under €500. As for it's capabilities, there's nothing confirmed but gesture based actions are supposedly a killer feature of the OS.

Could be worth considering to wait for Mr. Jobs to spill the beans

How about a decent system for SketchUp and rendering? It may be a little more than your quoted amount, but not by much. Or maybe some hardware components; monitor, graphics cards, cpu/motherboard only, etc.

(I'm a little hardware-focused as my system has become so outdated I can't even watch Hulu anymore.)

              (from Wikipedia)

The device is expected to incorporate a 10-inch (26 centimeter to 11-inch multi-touch display made by Innolux, a subsidiary of Foxconn. The price is expected to be more than the iPhone but less than an Apple notebook computer with a projected price around $1,000 USD.

              Interesting idea.

                      OK - I'll "bite". 😉

We always include an option to purchase IRender nXt. But I think I will offer a credit towards purchase of any rendering product. (From our point of view, if you learn enough about IRender nXt to win the contest, and still would rather purchase some other product - then we should help you out with the purchase.)

License for SU - another good idea.

Thanks for the help. It is good to know what things people might be interested it.

(I'll contact Google and see if they will let me offer a license to SketchUp as a prize.)

I think a drawing tablet is a good idea. Its one of those things that a lot of people like the look of but are put off by the price.

I like the idea of a rendering software license, also the drawing tablet. And I'd like to add a big HD monitor or how about a Nivida graphic card that supports Cuda.

I think it is relative to what you will get out of the promo. Run it on CGArchitect.com also and lot of CG artists using other systems will be all over your application if this was at stake.(-You may have to ask that the render file is submitted to ensure that it was rendered with NXT! 😛 )
Perhaps making the prize subject to a minimum number of entries received would cover your bets...

I'm curious as to what the conditions of the competition will be, will it have to be entirely created with SU? I'm assuiming the competition will take place here, ergo the SU requirement; and the render platform will be up to the individual.

Nope, in all fairness it should be Irender, after all Al would be supplying the prize, he will make a free trial version with all bells and whistles available for the competition (which would end on competition end date)

I think this is very fair, and a great way to get exposure, last year he too had some great prizes and IMO a very successful competition.
