My First House Model in Sketchup
-
I create a house model using sketchup pro 7, and I did pretty good for my first time. I just want to post it here to let "Pros" look at it and help me do better.

Hi Manoj.
I'm not going to beat about the bush, but this really is a case of 'could try harder'. At the moment, without sounding too harsh, your effort looks like the most basic thing you can create with the built-in tutorials.
I highly recommend looking at some buildings in cities and towns around you, and seeing how they are held together. Are they made from wood? Are they made from concrete? How high are they? How wide are they? Many buildings in tropical Asia have no windows, because of the heat. You could maybe then, watch some of the free Aidan Chopra tutorials on YouTube, to work out how you can visualise these. It's worth also getting a good 2D CAD application too, to do floor layouts. Most people use AutoCAD, but this is very expensive, so you could look around for a cheaper alternative. FWIW, I use software made by a Swiss company called Ribbonsoft. They make an application called QCad, that integrates very well with SketchUp.
Good luck!

Hey Manoj, welcome...looks a lot like my first SketchUp effort: fun program, huh? Now it's time to learn some new things. How 'bout "push/pull" to give the roof structure some depth? Also, the "texture" command to adjust the brick to the actual size you want to use? Then...who knows but you?
Be sure to post the progress of your process!

Hey, I just saw your school house and I agree with the others. It seem like you have no good experience yet, try looking at the Tutorials in the site.

You need to go out side and do a real building, nearby. try and try again until your sketchup model looks like the real building. Study and deconstruct the chosen building and look at its components, rafters guttering door jams, doors, doorhandles, windows and window sills etc It may assist you to do somthing less nieve. You need to follow the same building logic the builder did that way you may present somthing with integrity. You need to pay attention to scale and proportion. Good luck!!

Hi Steved. Pardon my ignorance, but is there an even better, and freeware application called "Open Office", which unlike word, won't cost you a penny? Or am I missing something here? "Movie Scripts"??? What's "movie scripts" got to do with SketchUp? A nifty little viral marketing plug for Microsoft perhaps?!
