      Hello All,

I've created a scale model of an interior in SketchUp. I have images that were sized to the same scale in Photoshop. However when I import them into Sketchup they come in much larger than they should. Is there a way to import them at size (which is less than 1024 x 1024 @ 72 ppi)?

      Thanks.

SketchUp does not choose the size of an image based on the pixel count of the image.

So you want it to import at 14.2" x 14.2" ? That is the 1024 / 77. Or what size (in inches or mm) are you thinking it should come in at? The way to do it is to import the image, click once inside the model to locate the base point for the image. Then type in a desired width and hit enter. It will put it at the size you specify.

Or if you are importing it as a material, just make a face that is the exact dimension that you want the image to be and apply the image to that face on import. That way you can get it to come in at exactly the right size.

        Hope that helps,

        Chris

I have about 60 images to import, so I was hoping they would come in at size. For instance I have one that is 65px x 65px @ 72ppi, upon import it shows up larger than the wall I want to put it on which has a surface area of over 132 feet.

I feel your pain. This could probably be done with a ruby script honestly. It might even exist already actually. I know there is a mass import script, I don't know how it decides to size the images though. You might go into the plugins forum and search for material or image importer or something. Or ask in the developers forum if anyone knows what its called and where to find it.

The problem here is that the ppi (or dpi) setting has nothing to do with SU. That's only for printing images (and even just from certain image editing software). SU does not use any of this info but uses (virtually) "real world" measurements like centimetres or inches.

I've often thought it would be nice though if SU looked at the ppi of an image. I often scale images in photoshop and it would be nice if SU had the option to import using that.

But then what should be the "ideal" ppi/dpi?

It's all about texture resolution against final output resolution. So a close-up shot should be higher while things in the background could remain lower.

No, don't think of it like that. Think of using the ppi to control how many pixels are in an inch of real space. So if the image is 100x100 pixels, set to 10 ppi, it would import at 10" x 10". I often set up my images this way in photoshop. I work on an image that is 24" x 36" at 150 dpi. When I import that to SU, it would be nice to have an option to keep current image size, so it actually comes in at 24" x 36" in the model.

I wouldn't always want every image to do that, but the option to do it would be handy sometimes.
