Hi, I am new to Sketchup and i have NO IDEA on how to create anything. I do know the basic tools and there funtions however. I need to create a simple Cup/ Bottle type model( Like a thermos) for an assignment, but I do not know how.
If anyone could help, or give me some helpful tips, than that would be appreaciated.

Hehe, thanks so much for the instructions. But I still have a few questions. How to Import a picture as a texture to the rectangle? And how do you trace around the bottle?

modelhead is absolutely correct, but maybe not the best for a beginner.

Start with a Circle. The default circle is on the rg plane (flat on the ground). Drag out to the size of your thermos base. Now PushPull the circle up to the bottom of the cup/lid part. PushPull again, but this time tap the Ctrl key (tap, no need to hold it down), up to the full height.

With the Select tool, double-click the top. Grab the Scale tool. This time you hold the Ctrl key down. Grab a corner and drag it in a bit. Bucket on a color for the thermos and another for the cup.

And, he asks curiously, what assignment has you SketchingUp?

I'd suggest looking at the sketchup tutorials (http://sketchup.google.com/training/videos/new_to_gsu.html);don't give up yet. Making a bottle is quite fast actually, look at this video I made...

I used this to make a bottle a few months ago. Maybe somebody can use the blueprint.

Just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in...Please don't give up. No matter how stupid your question seems to you, trust me, it's been asked before (probably by me) and these guys are very patient and willing to help. I just started using sketchup several months ago as a complete virgin to this type of program. I had never done any 3D modeling before and now I'm working on some animations (simple ones but making progress ) You'll get the hang of it. My best advice, from one newbie to another, is lots of trial and error and when you get really, really stuck...ask here.

I hope you post your attempts...would love to see them! Good luck!

It's especially important to post those stupid questions. One reason, is to get answers. Another is that guys like me who are trying to create educational material learn from them. "Oh, yeah! I should cover that."

                          1. Import Bluprint as picture.
                          2. Draw the kontour on the picture
                          3. Remove the rest.
                          4. With followMe around the circle.
