I've got a table drawn in, with legs, aprons, and top as separate components. The top is bevelled on the underside, the aprons aren't flush with the legs, etc. Various small fiddly touches.

I'd like to see what it would look like if the whole table were 12" longer, but with the same relationships between the end aprons, legs, and top edge. Essentially I'd like to create an imaginary plane through the middle of the table and then just sort of extrude the aprons and top from that plane until the table is the length I want.

Alternately, I'd like to see what it would look like with a longer overhang but the same size of bevel. This would involve creating an imaginary plane through the overhang outside the legs but before the start of the bevel and then "extruding" the top a bit further to increase the overhang.

Is this sort of thing possible?

Yes, but you must be very carefull. Backup for failure. Rotate if not, the model to line up with the axis, goto into top view, parallel projection, then selet (window from right to left) the part of the mdoel you want to stretch and use the move tool. If you fail, you have the backup.

it really depends a lot on how complicated the table is. if its a square table with a straight apron no problem:Capture.JPG

if its a little fancier you may need Fredoscale plugin it can stretch and scale to your hearts content. 😉

I tried this, but it selected the entire top and the entire length of the front and back aprons. Basically if part of a component was within the selection box the entire component was selected.

I guess this only works within a single component?

Probably a typo. Try from left to right.

Opps, sorry about that. The wrong way selects the wholw model.

Still no good. Left to right selects only those components which are entirely within the selection box.

Get the fredoscale plugin that xrok linked to earlier. It will do what you want plus a lot of other things

you do realize you need to be at the geometry level not the group or component level right? if not learn more about how SU works before continuing. 😉

As long as it is a backup copy, and if all you want is a look, explode the groups, and components, then stretch.
