Is there a plugin or other tool available that allows me to convert a model from metric to imperial or vice versa?

        Hi Craig,

There is a toggle units plugin (corrected for v7.1) here:

I just don't want you thinking the plugin actually converts the units.

The plugin merely makes shortcut buttons for changing the units in Sketchup. You don't need to convert a model - you just change the units from the Preferences dialog.

Similarly, you can specify the units when using the Measurements box no matter what the model units are set to. If you work in imperial, but have occasional metric units, just enter them as metric units - SketchUp will do the right thing.

            Hi

True, maybe I should also have addd that. In fact, the size is what matters and the unit system is all that's only artificial in it and exists merely virtually in our minds.

                Jim,
Thank you for the clarification. I understand what you are saying, and I'm glad that it's that easy to do!

All models are, internally, stored in inches. The Model Info window has a Units page that lets you change the displayed units.

Watch out. There are reefs in these waters. An American 4x8 wallboard sheet has an international equivalent, but it's not exactly 4x8. If you are modelling for building, you have to know what sizes your lumber yard carries.

Picky point: Americans call the international system metric. Others don't. The U.S. system started as the British system that predated the Imperial system. We had rebelled before they did Imperial so we never went along.

The Ruby Console is an excellent conversion calculator. Try about 10 inches (25.4 cm) below here:

                    HI,
I put the 2 files into the plugin folder and renamed toggle_units.txt to toggle_units.script and I get an error when starting SU "Error Loading File toggle_units.rb
cannot convert nil into String", but then the plugin works. What am I doing wrong?

                    Thanks in advance,
                    Tom
