      Hello,

Have been looking in to getting in to rendering, want to get the best results as possible from my sketchup models.

Looking at my budget I want to know what to spend my hard earned money on. Does anybody think it is worth going for 64 bit Windows with more than 4Gb of RAM?

Then getting on to the software, is it worth spending money on some of the more expensive renderers.

      Interested in hearing anybodys opinion.

      Mr C

Yes, its definitely worth going for a 64 bit system if you plan on doing a lot of rendering, the amount of RAM to buy will be largely based on your budget, but 6GB+ is a good starting point (you can go lower, but 6 will give you more options when rendering displacement, large images etc.)

In terms of what renderer to get, what sort of things are you likely to be rendering? whats your budget? are you going to be heavily restricted in terms of render times? Its also worth bearing in mind that most render engines can achieve very good results in the right hands.

          Thanks Remus,

I have ordered a new machine, Intel i7 with 12Gb of RAM. Hopefully this should help a little bit towards things. 🎉

Have spent a few days looking at the gallery and hope I can get some way near to this level. Going to have a go with some of the free trials and versions of the different renderers out there.

          Thanks again

          M

Martin, try to learn as much as you can about SketchUp first. Rendering is not a magic solution to make your models look good. You still need to work details, tweak things, and find workarounds. Try first making your SketchUp models look nice in the SketchUp viewport. A small example. Also check this awesome work by Nomer Adona. See how he placed so much attention to careful texturing that it looks awesome even in the SketchUp window.

Have you watched all the SketchUp official videos already?

Thanks Ecuadorian, your example was great. So often the small details that make it can be forgotten.

There are some amazing results and I know it going to take some time, and considerable patience. Can struggle with both, but hopefully will get something to be proud of. Keep an eye out, will be after feedback sometime soon 😉
