I am sketchup user who has always worked on a pc. Recently I purchased a macbook with the intention of using it for client presentations in sketchup. I have had good luck using sketchup with the logitech mx310 mice on my pc's. Earlier this week I purchased a logitech lx8 wireless laser mouse to be used with my macbook. I downloaded and installed the software from logitech and after much tinkering and an hour on the phone with logitech I can not get the scroll wheel button to properly function (orbit) in sketchup.

My pc's have the scroll wheel button set to "Autoscroll" in the mouse properties. "Autoscroll" is not an option in the mac version for the scroll wheel button. I tried every other option provided for the scroll wheel in the logitech software and nothing fixes the problem. Logitech technical support guy was pretty much useless and then advised me download steermouse- a third party "unofficially reccomended" software. This software did not offer the Autoscroll option either (though it does seem to have some pretty cool features).

Worth noting is that the when i uninstall the logitech software the mouse works fine in sketchup with great orbit control. The problem with not using the Logitech software is that I bought a 5 button mouse because i like to asign the 4 and 5 buttons to be esc. and forward delete. Without the Logitech software, the mac does not offer me the ability to customize these buttons so I might as well just use a 3 button mouse. Frustrating to say the least. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

this isn't a solution to your exact problem but....

that mouse has the side button that defaults as orbit.. (at least i think it does.. my logitechs/macs works like that)

if you get used to using the thumb button for orbiting, you have the advantage of being able to orbit and zoom at the same time because the scroll wheel (zoom) isn't being used while orbiting.

[this is without logitech control center(or whatever it's called).. not sure if the side button defaults to orbit with the software installed]

Thanks for the input. If I am going to use it without the software, the scroll wheel button works for orbit, I just don't get the functionality of the side buttons. Since I switch back and forth between PC desktop and mac laptop, I'd rather stay conistent with my pc's and what I know.

My Logitech cordless wheel doesn't work with PC SU.

If you get it working, please share!

Well, I haven't chimed in so far as I am not a Mac user but I also have a Logitech on my PC and it works just fine. Make sure to assign "middle mouse button" to the wheel in the driver. I could even asign previous and next view to the side buttons (just like you navigate in a browser) and it's quite handy.

It actually has a lot more buttons I don't even know what to use for (it is some media mouse whose special functions I have never tried).

            Gai...
