Dimensions underneath model window(?!)
-
I'm sure it's me, but at seemingly arbitrary times, the visibility of using the new dimension tool in layout disappears under the current sketchup model. I try to send the SU window back with arrange command, but no go, or place the dimensions partly on paper space and try to 'arrange' them forward, no go, dimensions are still underneath. Then just as suddenly, I can use dimension command and all is well. Love the new tool, just wish I could figure out its idiosyncrasies. (Or mine!) Thanks for any enlightenment.

In the layer stack (on the right hand side) make sure that you are putting the dimensions on the top-most layer. If they are on a layer below the 'model' then they will be obscured. You might also want to create a completely new layer ('dimensions') make sure it is on the top and put all your dims on this layer (so they can be turned off if you wish).Of course it could be something else altogether!

Yup, David's on to it. You order frontmost by layer, then by items on that layer. So if you want the dimensions in front, drag the layer to the top of the layer list. If your model only has one layer, then right click on the model and select Arrange->Send to Back, or select the model and do the same from the menu item Arrange.

Thanks Guys, I had the same problem. Excellent info.

The order of the layers is important, as bjanzen said. Typically I like to have a title block layer, a notes layer, a dimensions layer, and a model layer. One of the first things I do when I start a drawing in LayOut is to set the model up the way that I want the view, and then lock that layer. If I don't do that, I have found that I have accidentally slid the model around and messed everything up!

Thanks to you all. I had somehow missed the fact that the stacking order of layers controlled visibility. And I liked your layer tips, Eric.
