        theyre pretty boring to watch, really, as they generally take several hours to print and you then have to finish the model afterwards.

          I have to admit that the article sparked my interest because I've had a go myself.
          The shots below are direct SU to STL export. I had to subdivide and smooth an existing low poly model to avoid facetting.The resolution leaves a little to be desired at present...I had to remove the end of the gun barrel, or make it much thicker.
          You're limited a little by the process resolution itself and also by the limitations of what will survive as a self-supporting bit of plastic (thin antennae are a definite no), but overall it works pretty well. I had dreams of doing all the kind of surface detail you see in a Zbrush model, but it's not up to that standard yet...it would probably take forever to print, too.
