Guggenheim Design It Shelter Competition
-
Did anyone else enter the the Guggenheim Design It Shelter competition? http://www.guggenheim.org/new-york/education/sackler-center/design-it-shelter - it was announced on the Official SketchUp blog a while back. Perhaps you could share your models here if you did?
This was my entry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtxAuEOIiRA - very tame compared to a lot of the other entries but I had fun with it.

Nice work Martin.
That is a really cool animation you have created -
Indeed, a well thought through and very nice animation.
At some points a bit too fast - can Windows Movie Maker not help with that? I've never tried.
Also, is the surfboard available somewhere? I've been looking for a decent board but never found any. -
Thanks guys - I'm surprised there is no mention of the challenge on the forums.
Pg09 - I do realize that it was a little quick in parts but I limited myself to 90 seconds so I could share with my Flickr buddies and I probably tried to cram too many ideas into that time. The surfboard I used is this one with a little tweaking: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=dd0b5f1f441bcf5da59124ef5196e8e5&prevstart=12

A blind/hide is such a great idea under the restrictions of the competitions rules - why didn't I think of that? I really like the simplicity of your design and that huge window that seems to funnel in the view. Great work!

Thanks a lot!
Let's hope they'll accept it. I had to resubmit because it was a tad bit too large.

They told me that too the first time I submitted it - when I sent it back with an image showing the square footage of the floor area was within spec they apologized telling me that they'd sent me a rejection intended for someone else. I just don't think they know how to accurately measure internal shelter floor space. Good luck with your re-submission - your model deserves to be seen.

Are your submissions showing up on the Gallery page? I sent mine in on Saturday morning the 22nd, and now they are posting projects with the 23rd as the submission date. I emailed but haven't received anything back. Oh well, at least it was something fun to design.
Good luck with your projects.

Cheffey - it took about 3 days from the time I submitted until the time it showed up it their galleries. Check your email spam folder (that's where my confirmation ended up) - they will send you an email telling you if your model was accepted or rejected (and why). I'm sure they're fighting through a back log of last minute entries. Good luck.

Ok, I wish I knew that before. Maybe that would have got me motivated to send it in sooner.

great job, guys.

Thanks Jason, I used the watermark feature in sketchup for these and the video. Thanks to Dave R for the inspiration.

Well... thing is, mine actually was a bit too large. I thought it was correct, but I must've somehow changed it without knowing.
Thanks for that! It means a lot! Your's looks good too! Very detailed modelling I must say!

Congrats to all of you on your entries, they are all extremely good.

Here is my submittal.
A story is involved with this one. This home is designed is for a homeless Vietnam Veteran, Ray Black, forgotten by a nation and dismissed by our healthcare system. Ray needs to live in a place that the sound can drown out the voices of guilt raining in his head. Mr. Black's home is made a scrap metal from a recently demolished steel mill. Ray welded the shell himself, and insulated the interior with recycled cardboard. The house is suspended from a local underpass in Chattanooga, TN.
